本品為一年生匍匐草本植物，株高15至50厘米，根細長多分枝，開白色花朵。莖部呈微四棱形或扁圓柱形，表面光滑無毛，基部多分枝，春季開花。種子呈黃褐色，細小具三棱。

經炮製後藥材味苦淡，性寒，主要功效為清熱解毒、消腫止痛、散結利尿、祛濕化濁，對各類炎症有顯著效果。

即沖飲用方法：取3至4茶匙本品，加水沖調即可。
